A message from Chair of the Alumni Board Eddie Raleigh ’08

“Energized and organized. That’s how I feel headed into my term as chair of the Washington College Alumni Board. Like the College did for me for in the mid-2000s, Jenn Carey Svehla ‘03, other recent Alumni Board chairs, and the College’s alumni and advancement offices have created an environment for success. Working hand in hand with our partners on campus, the Alumni Board is positioned to serve the College and its alumni in all the same ways—and some new ones. Over the next two years, we will connect with current students, network with other alumni, and celebrate our alma mater. My years at the College transformed me, and I’m betting it did the same for many of you. That transformation—that learning experience—continues for me today. I look forward to meeting many more of you and serving as your Alumni Board chair. It’s an honor. Whether you graduated last year or 50 years ago: don’t be a stranger. Engage.”

Kappa Alpha Crab Feast

On Saturday, July 13, Jack ’65 and Faye Shannahan P’95 hosted their annual Kappa Alpha reunion crab feast at their home in St. Michaels. This was a special year, as all three of their children and their families were able to attend, including son John, a 1995 Washington College graduate. President Sosulski and Dr. Crane attended as honored guests and shared updates from Chestertown and a genuine appreciation of the special connection these men and women share. Each year, the fraternity brothers serenade the women in attendance—wives, girlfriends, widows, and guests—and present them with red roses to honor the tradition that began with their time as Washington College students.
