World Champion Rower Jordan Hyde ’25
Brings Home the Gold

By Courtney Hardy

Jordan Hyde ’25 of the women’s rowing team competed in the World University Games as part of the United States women’s eight. The team beat Italy by .67 seconds and brought home the gold medal.

“Representing the United States at the World University Championships was an absolute privilege,” said Hyde.

Hyde was the only Division III female athlete to compete in these games. She rowed her way through numerous qualifying races to make the final eight.

“Our team was composed of 11 rowers from 10 different universities. Unlike many of the other countries at the World Games, we had never rowed with one another before. When we came out on top in our heat, edging out Norway and the Netherlands, I think we realized we had a shot at placing well in the finals,” Hyde said. “We had put in a great deal of work in the weeks prior to racing, and we were excited to show how much we had grown together. Two days later, July 6, we successfully clinched first, and the feeling was unforgettable!”

Hyde has had quite the career at Washington College. She was named a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Second Team All-American for the second year in a row, earned the title of Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) First Team All-Conference two years in a row, was named an All-MARC Novice in her rookie season, is a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District, two-time CRCA Scholar-Athlete, and has also been named her team’s most valuable player twice. Hyde returned to campus this fall to compete in her senior year.

“This opportunity allowed me to see the amazing international community rowing has developed over the years,” Hyde said. “I am beyond grateful for what I have learned and what I will take with me from this experience. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way!”
