Celebrating the Class of 2024

For a class that started their college journey remotely in pandemic-mandated Zoom classes, the in-person Commencement Ceremony on May 19 held special importance and meaning for the 241st class of Washington College graduates. On a clear, beautiful, and mild day, the joy of the graduating students and their families and friends was a well-earned and exuberant celebration of their persistence and determination to succeed.

Eight-time GRAMMY-winning musician and renowned radio host Christian McBride was the keynote speaker. He regaled the crowd with stories of his adventures in a career in jazz and his thoughts on what makes someone successful—being prepared, overcoming moments of fear or embarrassment, and “working hard even when you think no one else is watching.”

Senior Class Speaker Grace Katherine Apostol spoke to the 207 other graduating students on how those following their passions create ripple effects that encourage, shape, and inspire.
