Words of Wisdom

The students and professors of Global Wisdom and Literature, co-taught by professors Courtney E. Rydel and Bin Song, put their insights into words.

Over the semester, the class studied many different traditions and cultures, contemplated art in many forms, from the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel to the verse of the Bhagavad Gita, and read a lot of poetry, including the master of the haiku, Matsuo Basho. In the final class, the students and professors composed these haikus to reflect on what they had gained from the course and by learning together. “It was a wonderful way to tie together all the ideas of the course!” Rydel said. The students’ poems are untitled.

Experience of Co-Teaching

My orchid blooms again.
Blossoms, dies, comes back once more.
Song renews my soul.

I am soon to teach.
